Alan Rough known as Roughie is a Scottish goalkeeping legend, he played in two World Cups for Scotland and enjoyed a lengthy club career primarily with Partick Thistle and Hibernian. During his time with Partick Thistle, the Scot won the Scottish League Cup, the Scottish First Division, and the Glasgow Cup. In his glittering playing career, Rough won a number of major individual accolades such as SFWA Footballer of the Year and was inducted into the Scottish FA International Roll of Honour. The keeping icon is also in three different Halls of Fame – Hibernian, Partick Thistle, and Scotland.
Rough played a humongous total of 624 games for Partick Thistle in all competitions, cementing himself as a club legend. He was also a member of the ‘Jags’ team that defeated Celtic 4–1 in the famous 1971 Scottish League Cup Final. After iconic stints at Partick Thistle and Hibernian, Rough played in the US with Orlando Lions and also had spells with Celtic, Hamilton Academical and Ayr United. After his fantastic playing career, Rough went into management. He had a successful five-year stint as the head coach of Glenafton Athletic. He led the team to three Scottish Junior Cup finals in a row between 1991–92 to 1993–94.
Rough has more recently been involved in media work, stating his sought after opinions on football matches on Scottish television. In 2018, Rough was appointed to the Partick Thistle board of directors, showcasing how important he is to the club and Scottish football.
