Bert Thomson After Dinner Speaker is a retired police inspector and former Wag of the year winner Bert is a gifted speaker and enjoys travelling all over Scotland to all types of events.

Bert, is a Glaswegian who lives a stone throw away from where the Vikings were given a severe lesson and did a ”runner” frae Largs in 1263.

Married to Myra for 48 years, Bert has four daughters. He accepted he was therefore sixth in the line of command, which lasted until the dog arrived, at which time he was demoted.

Trained as a joiner in the shipyards in Glasgow, Bert was prevented from going to Jordanhill College by Her Majesty’s call to arms. He served in Aden, Cyprus and Malta.
Bert was always keen on sports and he has played football and squash, pulling on the dark blue jersey when playing with the Scottish and British police. He still does hill and distance walking and has completed the West Highland Way over 20 times.

After 30 years of service in the police, Bert retired in 1993 as a police Chief Inspector. He then went on to work as a security manager with Scottish Nuclear and British Nuclear Fuels Limited, retiring in 2008, after receiving ‘glowing’ reports.

In 2010 Bert won the prestigious Epilepsy Scotland Edinburgh Wags 7th Annual dinner. Chaired by well- known Scottish actress Joyce Falconer, Bert was on stage along with speakers Patrick Duffy, Isobel Rutter and Steven Dick.
