Book The Magic Platters
Since 1953, when The Platters, one of the most successful groups of the early rock and roll era, were formed in Los Angeles, millions of men and women have enjoyed the stream of hits that they produced.
Now millions more are enjoying their music through the media of The MAGIC PLATTERS who have added their own Magic Touch in paying tribute with their fabulous live show.
THE MAGIC PLATTERS are now celebrating their silver anniversary, yes 25 years of reproducing some of the fabulous, familiar hits associated with the original iconic group.
Since their formation in 1984 the MAGIC PLATTERS have proven that they are not The Great Pretender but One in a Million as they produce a truly authentic sound that has Enchanted audiences world wide.
Leading the MAGIC PLATTERS is founder member John Cheatdom. Born in Brooklyn, and brought up through the rock ‘n’ roll era, John began his singing career by singing in the choir of his local Methodist church.
Encouraged by his mother, a concert pianist who recognised Johns vocal talent and his unique falsetto range, he co-founded The Velours, a singing group in 1956. The group instantly shot to fame with the single “Can I Come Over Tonight" and in 1958 the original members were inducted into the U.S. Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Since those early days, John has been instrumental in the formation of a further two successful vocal groups, the Fantastics in 1971, producing the smash hit single “Something Old, Something New” and in 1981, The Realistics , one of the UK’s most highly acclaimed live performers both on television and the then lucrative cabaret circuit.
With a proven track record for recognising talent and bringing together a group of people to produce a successful vocal ensemble John, with the blessing of Buck Ram formed “The Magic Sound of the Platters” , recently shortened to be THE MAGIC PLATTERS, to pay tribute to Buck’s original hit formula.
Like the original group the MAGIC PLATTERS line up has changed through the years. John has been very selective in choosing members to ensure the authenticity of the group’s performance.
Joining John on stage and adding that touch of glamour is Jackie Rae. Jackie met the group some 22 years ago when she attended a high profile audition in London. Since joining the group she has enjoyed the experience and the rollercoaster ride of world travel and one night stands entertaining millions of adoring fans.
Singing tenor with the group is Chazz, a native of St Louis, Missouri and a former student of the Catherine Dunham Dance School of Arts.
Inspired by acts such as Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye, Chazz entered the music industry full time. For eight years he performed with Little Anthony and The Imperials before going solo. As a solo artiste he opened for many top names including The Stylistics, Millie Jackson and the Isley Brothers to name but a few. In the late 80’s he joined the Boston group The Indigos with whom he enjoyed some chart success.
In 1996 Chazz returned to the United States and was instrumental in the formation of acts paying tribute to the Four Tops and Vintage, a group of multi talented artistes who were one of the hottest groups in Las Vegas.
He has now returned to the UK to add his warm tenor tones to the MAGIC PLATTERS.
Last but by no means least John selected Dino Cassar Jnr to complete the group.
Dino, a native of Malta, currently bases himself from his home tucked away in the west of Scotland. He has spent almost all of his musical career entertaining people throughout Europe both as a solo artiste and as a member of many successful vocal groups.
John spotted Dino’s talent when he was performing as part of a vocal group paying a tribute to the Drifters and stars of the Motown stable.
Included in Dino’s impressive career scrapbook are tours with the Legendary Ben E King, appearances alongside former Drifters members Ray Lewis and Bill Frederick and an in Concert appearance with Dionne Warwick. He has played venues that some major headliners only dream of including the famous London Palladium.
On My Word of Honor, the group is now complete and ready to perform on Heaven and Earth for Only You. I’m Sorry, it is Only Because, before the Smoke Gets in Your Eyes at Twilight Time that you can Remember When you used to stand behind the Trees and watch the Harbour Lights reflect in the Ebb Tide as the Red Sails in The Sunset glide over the Sleepy Lagoon that you can think I Wish it Were Me.
We do apologise for our little play with the titles of some of the Platters hits, but there are so many that they do tell a story.
The songs of the Platters, sprinkled with a small selection of other hits of the times performed with such accuracy and passion that we guarantee you a superb show performed by the widely acclaimed and respected, THE MAGIC PLATTERS.
