Russell Watson

Book Russell WatsonThe story of Russell Watson is inspirational. It depicts the meteoric rise of a humble factory worker from Salford who was catapulted into international singing stardom.

He has sold millions of records worldwide and has performed for some of the most influential people of our time including the King of Malaysia, The President of the United States, the Emperor of Japan, our very own Prime Minister Tony Blair, Prime Minister of Germany, various powerful Sultans, The Beckham's and even the late Pope John Paul II who requested a private audience with Russell at the Vatican in Rome.

After staging a recent concert at Windsor Castle in the presence of Prince Charles and Camilla Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Charles requested Russell's services as an ambassador for his coveted charity The Princes Trust. Keeping it in the 'Royal' family, Russell has been invited to numerous functions hosted by Queen Elizabeth II including a recent visit to Buckingham Palace.

This success did not happen overnight. As the son of a factory worker, Russell found himself following in his father's footsteps working 12 hour nightshifts in a nuts and bolts factory to earn his living. It was only when he entered a local radio talent competition, beating 400 other hopefuls, Russell decided to throw down the proverbial oily rag and pursue his passion, music! Russell spent the next few years completing his musical apprenticeship in the North West working men's clubs.

Russell's big break came in May 1999 when he was invited to Old Trafford to sing before Manchester United's Premiership-winning match. His performance of the World Cup anthem "Nessun Dorma" received a standing ovation. To quote respected sporting journalist, Paul Hince, present at the game: "You know when you have just witnessed something special when even the cynical hacks in the press box rise to their feet and join in the ovation. I swear, even the pigeons on the roof of the stands flapped their wings".

Tony Christie

Book Tony ChristieBorn in Conisborough, South Yorkshire, England, Tony Christie was a self-taught guitarist who became a professional singer in 1964. He recorded singles with groups including the Counterbeats, ‘Tony Christie and the Trackers’ and ‘Tony Christie and the Pen Men.’ By the time he signed a solo recording contract with MCA Records in 1969, he had acquired vocal mannerisms similar to those of Tom Jones, and this attracted the interest of songwriters Mitch Murray and Peter Callander, who provided Christie with his first UK Top 30 entry in late 1970/early 1971 with "Las Vegas".

Later, the million-selling "(Is This The Way To) Amarillo" topped charts throughout Europe although only breaking into the Top 20 in the UK.

He remained a solid draw on the European live circuit throughout the 80s and 90s, especially in Germany, enjoying occasional hit singles with the likes of "Kiss In The Night" and the Vicky Leandros duet "We're Gonna Stay Together". Almost exactly 23 years after his last UK chart entry, in January 1999, Christie was back in the UK Top 10, fronting All Seeing I on the Jarvis Cocker penned "Walk Like A Panther".

He enjoyed even more success in March 2005 when "(Is This The Way To) Amarillo" was re-released for Comic Relief with the help of comedian Peter Kay. The single went straight into the number 1 slot in the UK charts while Christie’s compilation album topped the album listings. "(Is This The Way To) Amarillo" was still at number 1 in April, when Christie became the first artist to top the revamped singles chart with downloads from the internet included.

Michelle McManus

Michelle McManusBright, determined, confident and hugely talented, Michelle took the record industry by storm when, against the odds, she won Pop Idol on the 20th December 2003 with in excess of 6.5 million votes.

Her first single, ‘All This Time’, released 12th January 2004, was number 1 for three weeks and was the second biggest selling British single of 2004 (Band Aid being number 1). Michelle was the first Scottish female to debut at number 1 and ‘All This Time’ was nominated for an Ivor Novello Award in 2004. Her album ‘The Meaning of Love’ released in February 2004 was also hugely successful.

Not bad for a Glaswegian lass who, before entering Pop Idol, was an Events Manager for Marriott Hotels in Glasgow. She’d always loved singing and entertaining and had a dream growing up to becoming a professional singer and performer, but like most young people put the dream on hold to earn a living. Up until that fateful day when she attended the Pop Idol auditions, her performing experience was limited to school plays, a year attending the Youth Works Drama Group at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (1993-94) and performing in a variety show with Scottish comedian and actor Andy Cameron at the Pavilion Theatre, Glasgow in 1997.

Michelle’s artistic career is booming. She has hosted her own Saturday night radio show on the top rated independent station in Scotland – Radio Clyde and has her own series - ‘Let’s Do The Show Right Here’ - on BBC Radio Scotland. In June 2006 she received rave reviews for her appearance in the “Vagina Monologues” at the Millennium Theatre in Derry and appearing in the same piece for a sold out week in Edinburgh during February 2009. Other theatre success includes an Edinburgh Festival run of ‘Discotivity’, a musical version of the biblical nativity story, in which she played an all-singing, all-dancing Virgin Mary! She also recently made a guest appearance in ‘Still Game’ (BBC2) and toured the Far East in late 2007 in ‘Little Voice’. Michelle is currently in the studio working on her long-awaited new album and making numerous live appearances.
